Despite the writer’s strike the show must go on for the Networks (when possible) and so the People’s Choice awards aired yesterday.  Queen Latifah hosted the “newsmagazine” style broadcast, on CBS. Two of the big winners of the night  were Johnny Depp and Reese Witherspoon, taking home Best Actor and Actress respectively. Celebrities made appearances by prerecorded acceptance speeches and vintage video clips, which were mostly montages of memorable moments. Here are some of the top winners (hardly any inspiring choices but that’s the nature of this particular award show):

 Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are currently shooting “Four Christmases”  and the two apparently haven’t been getting along from the get go. The movie by the way is about a couple that try to visit all four of their divorced parents during the holidays. There differing styles, Reese an intense do it by the script girl and Vince more the casual off the cuff sort, aren’t mixing well.  The latest drama though involves a scripted sex scene. Reese doesn’t want to do it because it’s way over the top,  slap stick, American Pie-style type romp. 

A source told PageSix.com , “Reese has an issue with the scripted love scene. Reese is such a prude, she thinks it’s just too much.”

While Reese may be the bigger star of the two, Vince definitely has more clout on set. Not only is he one of the film’s producers but he also oversaw most of the writing, so the sex scene will most likely be filmed as written. With Reese making in the neighborhood of  say $15 +  million for this little project, she is just going to have to suck it up (so to speak).  Even if she had to have REAL sex with Vince for that kind of money, what the heck?

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal took her kids out for a hike,  looking like one big happy family. The on-again pair, who met while filming their CIA thriller Rendition, spent an afternoon hiking around a Malibu, California, park December 30.

The kids took turns holding Reese’s hand while Deacon took a ride on Jake’s shoulders.

Deacon and Ava have also recently spent time with dad Ryan Phillippe’s girlfriend, actress Abbie Cornish, whom he’s been seeing off and on since his October 2006 split from Witherspoon.

Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are currently shooting ”Four Christmases,”about a couple’s  struggle to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day.  The  is supposed to be a romantic comedy but it is reportedly turning into a drama at least on set.
Insiders working on set with Reese and Vince say the tension between the stars is even more entertaining than the script.  Reese, who named her production company ‘Type A’ for a reason, is butting heads with Vaughn’s laid-back approach to work.

“Vince rolls onto set in the morning looking like he just came in from a night out, while Reese will arrive early looking camera-ready,” says the source. “Then Reese tries to force Vince into blocking out each scene and running through their lines as Vince tries to convince her that he’s an ad-libber and wants to play around and see where the scene goes.”

“She’s a one-take perfectionist and Vince likes to try it a few different ways,” snickers our snitch. “Sometimes Vince will be standing behind her and he has this look on his face that he just wants to kill her!”

Inspite of the apparent personality clashes the movie is said to remain on schedule and on budget.

It seems so!   Recent pictures have come out that are pretty undeniable (sob, I don’t have them) showing Ryan and Australian actress Abbie Cornish having some very romantic moments together and spending time with Phillippe’s kids. 

“They are a real couple,” a source close to the pair tells Gatecrasher. “[The relationship] has really grown. She’s spending time with his kids [Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4] - it’s not like she’s on the side. She’s part of the family.”

Another source said: “Going out together and leaking a few photos is their discreet way of letting the public know it’s official. It’s not like you can send out a press release about these things.”.

Abbie and Ryan were originally linked together during filming of their movie “Stop Loss” - where they were alleged to have had a romance, which was widely credited with ending Phillippe’s seven-year marriage to Reese Witherspoon.  No doubt this will verify to many Reese Witherspoon fans that Ryan Phillippe did commit adultery.

Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon has topped the best paid actress list getting between $15 million to $20 million a movie.

Angelina Jolie came second, despite usually making similar amounts, after earning only $8m (£4m) for Beowulf. Others on the list in order are Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, and Halle Berry.

“Traditionally, the top male actors - like Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise - make around $30m (£15m) per film, with a piece of the film’s profits,” Hollywood Reporter’s Michelle Grabicki told the Associated Press news agency.

Showbiz parents usually hope their children aspire for more normal careers.   Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe might want to rethink that idea though.  Little Deacon Phillipe has a job all lined up for himself now that his mom reportedly told Britain’s Daily Express that she and Phillippe aren’t anxious for the boy, or even his older sister, to go into showbiz.

“He wants to be a pizza delivery boy,” the Oscar winner, 31, is quoted as telling the paper. “Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it’s hard to see how it could be a career as such.”

Of course the Pizza Hut people jumped on the chance to get in on the act and get some good PR.  They have a job waiting for Deacon they say in an open letter to the child made public by Extra.

“Dear Deacon,” writes Sandi Karrmann, identified as the “Chief People Officer” for the pizza chain, “We recently heard that you want to be a pizza delivery driver when you grow up. How wonderful! You’ve got several years to go before you can join our team, but in the meantime we’re sending you a few things, so that you can practice.”

The company’s gifts to the boy include a Pizza Hut uniform “that’s just your size,” writes Karrmann, who also sent a mini-delivery car “for you to polish your driving skills,” as well as gift cards for Pizza Hut pizzas.

Also included: encouragement. “We have delivery drivers who have worked for us for 10, 15, even 20 years!” says the letter. “And the same Pizza Hut drivers who deliver hot, fresh pizzas right to your door have gone on to become successful business, doctors, lawyers and, yes, actors.”

In closing, Karrmann advises, “Deacon, keep on dreaming big and know that we’re saving a spot for you on our team.”

As for Witherspoon and Phillippe’s other child, 8-year-old Ava, her mother is quoted in the Express as saying, “My daughter wants to be a scientist, but they are both at the stage where it changes from one week to the next. Neither has said they want to be actors, but you never know.”

Meanwhile Ryan Phillipe recently sat down for an interview with new magazine “Man About Town” and gave some insight on how tough the divorce from Reese Witherspoon was on him: “After the divorce I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die. I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit.”

On using his past experiences to now cry on demand: “Now, it’s f-king easy. When I was younger, I didn’t have enough to cry about. But since I’ve had kids, I feel my work has become better, because my life is fuller and more complicated, and I’ve experienced so many highs and lows.”

Jake Gyllenhaal (wearing the ape suit) and Reese Witherspoon (dressed as a witch) had another public play date Wednesday, taking Witherspoon’s two children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, trick or treating in L.A.’s Brentwood neighborhood.

“They were holding hands and swinging them in the air as they walked around the neighborhood,” adds a witness, who says Gyllenhaal often lifted up his gorilla mask to smooch his Rendition co-star. “Reese was laughing at everything Jake was saying.”

As Ava (also in witch wardrobe) and Deacon (dressed as a super hero) ran up to every door for treats, “Reese and Jake waited on the sidewalk and flirted,” the onlooker tells Usmagazine.com. “Jake tapped Reese on the butt and then she hit him back - they began running a circle hitting each other!” the witness says. “Then Jake picked Reese up off her feet and she screamed.”

Gyllenhaal seemed to play it cool during his first public outing with Witherspoon’s children.

“Jake ran up to Deacon with the gorilla mask and pretended to scare him!” the onlooker says. “Deacon laughed.”

Last week Reese and Jake attended actress friend Kate Hudson’s Halloween party at her Pacific Palisades mansion Saturday night.

Also in attendance at Kate’s party: On-again flame Dax Shepard, Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes and comedian David Spade.
