Comedy actor PAUL REUBEN is attempting to reprise his most famous character to make two new Pee-Wee Herman movies. It’s been nearly 20 years since Pee-wee appeared in a feature film of his own.
Just months after vowing never to play the comic creation that defined his career again, Reubens is working on two new scripts - the first due for release in 2009, 19 years after he retired the beloved character.
He explains his change of heart to MTV, “I feel like the time is really ripe right now. A lot of the kids who grew up with the show are young adults. The college kids are middle-aged adults. I feel like I have enough of a built-in audience to make back an investment.”
Of the two movies planned one is an extension of the famed TV show, “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” only this story would take Pee-wee and his friends outside the house for the first time to explore “puppet land”.
The second film, which Reubens called “the dark Pee Wee movie,” basically the story of Pee-wee Herman becoming famous as a singer,” he explained. “He has a hit single and gets brought out to Hollywood to make musical movies, kind of like they did with Elvis. It all kind of goes downhill from there for Pee-wee. He turns into a monster.
Whether the 55-year-old Reubens can realistically don Pee-wee’s red bow tie again was answered for him after his first appearance in character in 15 years at Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards. Despite being quite nervous, Reubens said the character “came right back” to him. Still, Reubens said he had a backup plan for the Pee-wee movies should he not be up for the part. “My second option is to have Johnny Depp play Pee-wee,” he said. Pie-in-the-sky casting or a realistic plan, Reubens insisted that he’s even spoken to Depp about it, saying that the actor told him, “Let me think about it.”

According to Variety magazine, Johnny Depp has signed a deal to step into the shoes of one of the most notorious gangsters in US history, according to industry reports. Johnny Depp - The Pirates of the Caribbean star who is no stranger to playing infamous criminals will reportedly be awash in blood again as he picks up a machine gun to play John Dillinger, the notorious Depression-era bank robber famed for his slick heists during the public enemy era of early 1930s America.
Variety reports that Depp met with “Collateral” & “Heat” director Michael Mann to discuss an adaptation of Brian Burroughs’ 2004 book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34.
This may be a combination of destiny. Michael Mann was thought to have been considering a spot in the director’s chair for the Tom Cruise-starring spy thriller Edwin A Salt. But then Depp became available after he was to have starred in Warner/Initial Entertainment’s “Shantaram” followed by Warner Independent’s “The Rum Diaries,” but both of those projects were postponed last month, leaving the star with an opening in his schedule.
Along with Michael Mann, Kevin Misher is on board as producer; Robert De Niro and his partner Jane Rosenthal, who originally optioned the book, have been involved as exec producers; and the studio is looking at a March start in Chicago if all the elements come together.

Photos from yesterdays press conference and the “Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” New York Premiere.
Johnny Depp who found inspiration from Keith Richards, for his Pirates Of The Caribbean character Jack Sparrow, turned to another rocker for his spark as he debuts his singing skills in to play the musical demon barber of Fleet Street for pal TIM BURTON’s new movie musical. Depp needed inspiration because singing does not come second nature for him:
“I’ve always been frightened of karaoke so I never tried it. It scares the hell out of me… And I’ve never been that drunk.”
Depp credits punk rock icon IGGY POP for singing inspiration and classic horror movie stars Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff with helping him create the character of SWEENEY TODD.
He says, “Iggy has a beautiful deep quality about him and he’s a real crooner, so that’s where the musical element of Todd came from, I guess.
“And early on, Tim and I spoke about silent film and the king of silent cinema, especially the horror genre, was Lon Chaney Sr. So using him was an inspiration, as was Boris Karloff. We liked the classic, iconic image of movie monsters.”

Perhaps they were twins by different mothers? But Helena Bonham Carter is convinced that her life partner and father of her 1.5 children Tim Burton, is in love with her because she is a female version of his longtime pal Johnny Depp. Helena who is expecting a second child with Burton, and known to be eccentric insists she and Depp, who co-star in the director’s new Sweeney Todd musical, share looks and character traits.
Helena explains,
“We have the same frown line and there’s certain similarities between the two of us, according to Tim - we always like to camouflage ourselves to the hilt when it comes to playing parts and we both loathe watching ourselves.
“And we’re both pale and tubercular and have big eyes. Tim’s always said we would be great in a silent movie. I think he definitely thinks I should’ve been in a silent movie because I talk too much.”
Helena is very quotable in case you didn’t know, some of her recent sound bytes lately regarding boyfriend Tim Burton’s new movie musical Sweeny Todd include:
“I haven’t watched the film. I wish I wasn’t in it because I know I’d love it.”
“I’m sure the others felt I was picked because I was sleeping with the director; but Steven Sondheim chose me - and I definitely didn’t sleep with him.”

Johnny Depp has given his love and partner Vanessa Paradis a special present - a vineyard. The gift serves as congratulations for her months of hard work in celebration for completing her new album.
The 44-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star purchased the vineyard in Plan de la Tour, close to the villa he shares with Paradis, 35, and their two children, Lily-Rose, 8, and Jack, 5.
The luxurious villa boasts a master bedroom with its own swimming pool and the vast grounds contain five separate houses, a private chapel and another swimming pool.
The couple are regularly seen buying fruit, vegetables and clothes at the local market.
Depp also owns a 45-acre island in the Bahamas, where he frequently vacations.
Despite his relationship with the french songstress lasting nearly ten years, Depp insists he has no plans to marry again following his earlier divorce to make-up artist Lori Anne Allison in 1985.

There are five weeks until “Sweeney Todd” opens December 21, and Burton is still working on his latest ambitious endeavor, a full-fledged live-action musical based on Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway hit. For Johnny Depp, singing in Sweeney may pose the biggest challenge yet in his remarkable career predicated on taking chances. But judging by the video preview I think he is going to pass with flying colors.

Johnny Depp has finally opened up about his daughter’s illness last year. Lily-Rose was rushed to the emergency room and nearly died according to many sources. Production was halted on the set of Depp’s movie “Sweeny Todd” so that Depp could be with his daughter. Though he and girlfriend Vanessa Paradis haven’t officially disclosed what sent Lilly-Rose to the hospital, several sources said she was suffering from blood poisoning after stepping on a rusty tack.
Johnny Depp says his 8-year-old daughter is now healthy and well following her hospitalization earlier this year. “Now every single millisecond is a mini-celebration,” the 44-year-old actor tells Entertainment Weekly in its Nov. 9 issue. “Every time we get to breathe in and exhale is a huge victory. She pulled through beautifully, perfectly, with no lasting anything.”
Lily-Rose, the daughter of Depp and French singer Vanessa Paradis, was admitted to a British hospital to receive treatment for an undisclosed ailment about three weeks after Depp started work on “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” Tim Burton’s adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical about a murderous barber.
“To say it was the darkest moment, that’s nothing,” Depp tells the magazine. “It doesn’t come close to describing it. Words are so small. But knowing that those people, Tim and the crew, shut down and stood by and waited … I didn’t know if I was coming back. I remember talking with Tim, saying, `Maybe you need to recast.’ Once we were given the all-clear, I had to dive back into the work,” he says. “I had to get back in there for Tim”.

Depp and his girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, also have a 5-year-old son together. Depp’s new film, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” hits theaters on December 21.

The trailer for the upcoming Tim Burton film, Sweeney Todd starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, is out. It looks like Depp gets to sink his teeth into another offbeat roll as a serial killer bent on revenge.

I always love the dark haunting visuals and atmosphere Tim Burton seems to always provide
