Patrick Swayze continues to work but needs to give up the smokes

Patrick Swayze continues to work but needs to give up the smokesPatrick Swayze’s doctor George Fisher commented on his condition.  Dr Fisher said: “Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

He said reports of his prognosis were “untrue” and added: “We are considerably more optimistic.”

According to Swayze’s rep Annett Wolf, he is currently undergoing chemotherapy – not radiation – and he has not lost his hair.

Swayze reportedly received three radical chemotherapy sessions at Stanford University’s highly-respected cancer centre in Palo Alto, California, which he has been attending with his wife of 32 years Lisa Niemi.

She added that, for the time being, there is no way to gauge how long the treatment is expected to last.

Furthermore, contrary to some reports, Swayze was not diagnosed in January (following a gastrointestinal ultrasound procedure), but far more recently.

In addition, she said, Swayze’s daily routine has remained unchanged. Despite the diagnosis, Swayze is continuing with his normal schedule. He recently completed shooting Fired Up - a comedy in which he plays a gay cheerleading instructor.

One thing that remains unchanged but needs to is Swayze’s cigarette smoking, which he once admitted was up to three packs a day. Supposedly Doctors have had to order Patrick Swayze to give up cigarettes in their battle to treat his pancreatic cancer.

The 55-year-old actor and keen pilot is such a heavy smoker that in 2001 his plane crashed after the altitude controller became blocked with tar.  A third of pancreatic cancer cases are linked to smoking.
