Cameron Diaz thrilled by reunion with Cruise

Posted on June 25th, 2009 by Austin

Cameron Diaz thrilled by reunion with CruiseOn Monday, after years of unjust delays and debate, Cameron Diaz was finally awarded a Hollywood star. And among the crowd of five-hundred close friends were Tom Cruise and his wife, Katie Holmes.

Last night, at the New York premiere of her film, ‘My Sister’s Keeper,’ the 36-year old actress was still thrilled by this gift, “I was really happy to see them,” she told US. “It was so lovely of them to come out and show support. My family and friends were there, and I consider the two of them that as well. So it was really wonderful to have them there.”

Having already co-starred with Tom in 2001’s psychological snoozer, ‘Vanilla Sky,’ Cameron is now set to repeat the delight, as both have signed-on to star in the upcoming Fox picture, “Wichita.’

Described by the studio as ‘a lively comedy,’ and due to be helmed by James Mangold [Men in Trees,] the movie follows the life of a woman [Diaz] who has nothing but bad luck with men. A secret agent [Tom] then appears in her life, and suddenly that luck improves. “I’m very, very excited about doing it.” Cam gushed to a scribe. It’s an action film, so I’m really excited to work with him again.”

There’s no date for release on the new movie yet, but the Fox suits are said to be aiming for sometime next Summer…which should be just enough time for Cam to calm down.

Sneak peek at Tim Burton’s new Alice

Sneak peek at Tim Burtons new AliceSneak peek at Tim Burtons new Alice

When Walt Disney brought the Lewis Carroll classic, Alice in Wonderland, to public attention in 1951, there’s no way he could foresee what Tim Burton has done to it now.

“It’s been Burton-ized” say producer, Richard Zanuck. “”We finished shooting in December. Now the live action is being merged with animation, then transferred into 3-D.”

The results you can see for yourself in these slides.

In this Burton-ized sequel, also being manged by Disney, Alice [HBO’s ‘In Treatment’ lead, Mia Wasikowska, who beat Lindsay Lohhan to the coveted role.] attends a party and discovers she is to be proposed to in front of the whole crowd. Horrified by the prospect, she runs off, meets the White Rabbit [Michael Sheen,] disappears into his burrow and emerges in Wonderland, which she last saw ten years earlier but doesn’t recall.

There, waiting to greet her are The Mad Hatter [Johnny Depp, in his seventh Burton movie.] the White Queen [Anne Hathaway,] and the splendid Alan Rickman, making his Burton debut as the smooth Caterpillar.

Burton’s own girlfriend, Helena Bonham Carter also joins in as the evil Red Queen. And you can tell she’s Tim’s girl – The Queen lives in a huge, scary castle, and her favorite motto of ‘Off with their Heads!’ results in the moat being filled with former-enemies skulls.

But producer, Zanuck’s not worried by Tim’s ‘unique’ vision; “The book’s pretty dark,” he told USA. “This is for little people and people who read it when they were little 50 years ago.”

The premier is set for March 5, 2010, so book your seat now – With Johnny involved, the lines could be big.

Julianne Hough to be Footloose in first movie role

Posted on June 20th, 2009 by Hot Momma

Julianne Hough to be Footloose in first movie roleParamount’s remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon classic, “Footloose,” has garnered a lot of excitement and has seen many young stars pursuing roles. After Zac Efron dropped out, reportedly because he feared being typecast, Chace Crawford  23, jumped in to play Ren McCormack, the rebellious dancing high schooler.

And as for the female lead candidates included Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough, all of whom had auditioned in past weeks for the part of Ariel Moore, the independent daughter of a preacher man, originated in the 1984 classic by Lori Singer. Even Miley Cyrus was reportedly considered for the role but it apparently didn’t work out.

Now Variety reports that Julianne Hough, will indeed be the lucky leading lady to dance alongside Chace, provided that the scheduling can be worked out. Hough is still under contract to appear in future seasons of DWTS, but has said she won’t return for the ninth season of the show. She will be making her movie debut with Footloose, that is described as a more mature and modern version of the 1984 classic, providing contractual obligations don’t get in her way.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen - Early Reviews from the UK

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen - Early Reviews from the UK

While ‘Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’ won’t be in theaters until Wednesday, June 24th in the US, over in the U.K. critics have already gotten a look. The reviews seem favorable but most think the film runs a bit too long. Here are some excerpts:

  • “It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever… It’s bigger. Badder. Boobier. And many other words beginning with B, including boneheadedly brilliant… And that, readers, is Michael Bay’s latest film in a nutshell. Stupid and proud.” [News of the World]
  • “In terms of explosions, firepower and sheer shrill, all-action, popcorn entertainment it is hard to see how this big’n’bold sequel can be topped this year. Star Trek might have had more spaceships and aliens and Terminator: Salvation more grim-faced robots, but this Michael Bay summer blockbuster is pure mindless adventure mayhem that sticks firm and hard to its winning formula. In truth, it is a film for teen boys – and a bloomin’ long one at that – but is also a guaranteed multiplex crowd pleaser.” [Mirror.co.uk TV]
  • “For all its faults, Fallen is genuinely more enjoyable than the summer’s other giant-robot picture Terminator Salvation. In contrast to McG’s portentous, po-faced tone, Bay works in a likeable strain of knowing humour that makes the two hour-plus running time fly by.” [Total Film]
  • “Similarly, Revenge Of The Fallen shares its predecessor’s tin ear for the spoken word. Dialogue, as if it even matters, is delivered at breakneck speed and is barely audible amongst the cacophony of metal on metal. What can be heard isn’t much worth listening to – it doesn’t feel much like a script, rather a transcription of Action Man’s greatest pull-string catchphrases. In Michael Bay’s universe, soldiers really do say “Bring the rain!” and villains really do snarl “This isn’t over!” But come on. Like you even care”. [The Shiznit]
  • “Unlike the summer’s other big robot movie, Revenge Of The Fallen does have a personality, but it’s a frightfully detestable one. It celebrates all the wrong things with ferocious gusto, marking a new type of low for blockbusters.” [SciFiNow]
  • With machines that are impressively more lifelike, and characters that are more and more like machines, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” takes the franchise to a vastly superior level of artificial intelligence. As for human intelligence, it’s primarily at the service of an enhanced arsenal of special effects, which helmer Michael Bay deploys like a general launching his very own shock-and-awe campaign on the senses. Otherwise, little seems new compared to the first installment, except that this version is longer, louder, and perhaps “more than your eye can meet” in one sitting. It will reap similar B.O. rewards worldwide. [Variety]
  • “Don’t get us wrong, we love Michael Bay and the particular grab-bag of delights only he can bring to blockbuster movies; huge explosions; quick, intense dialogue; lingering , pornographic shots of both girls’ asses and military hardware. 90 minutes of Bay-ness makes for a thrilling flick, but if the clock starts ticking past the two hour mark and beyond, it all becomes just too much; your mind and senses need a rest.” [IGN.com]
  • With its intelligence at the level of the simple-minded, however, the film is not likely to attract moviegoers who seek something more than a screen filled with kaleidoscopes of colored metal. Fan boys will no doubt love it, but for the uninitiated it’s loud, tedious and, at 147 minutes, way too long. [HollywoodReport.com]

The Green Lantern movie the studios should make

Posted on June 13th, 2009 by Susan

Dallas-based video editor Jaron Pitts has put together a fan based Green Lantern origin story trailer, featuring Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. I am pretty dismissive of fan based trailers usually, but this is extraordinary work and I hope you will take a look if you are a DC comic book fan. Production Weekly notes the shooting of Warners’ Green Lantern will commence this September, working towards a release date of December 17, 2010.

Ryan Reynolds dishes on Deadpool debut

Posted on June 12th, 2009 by Austin

Ryan Reynolds dishes on Deadpool debutAfter years of climbing the mountain all actors must scale, Ryan Reynolds is now living his dream. His debut in X-Men met with worldwide acclaim, he has a spinoff in motion and has total control, and just for good measure he’s now married to Scarlett Johansson.

Does life get better than this?

After his scenery-chewing star-turn in the Hugh Jackman smash, the Fox suits gave Ryan creative control, and he’s now hard at work making good on their trust. “I love it, because I get to be involved,” he told MTV. “And I’m such a huge fan of the character!”

The film still lacks a Director, or even a script, but the Vancouver-born Reynolds, 33, has assured all the nerds their patience will meet with reward. “The studio want to make an authentic ‘Deadpool’ movie; as close to the source as possible. And I get to be the authentication police,” he told the scribes with a grin.

The new movie is seen a showcase for ‘Deadpool,’ and meant to prove he’s ‘the merc with a mouth,’ or so Ryan says. “He’s going to have the scarred-up face and the suit, and it’s going to be incredible,” he explains, with that modest effacement so loved by the stars. “Now, it’s a question of figuring out the spine of the story; Who’s the villain? What does Deadpool want? We’re just trying to work that stuff out.”

Deadpool is due to land in mid-20011, but fans can see Ryan sooner in Sandra Bullock’s new Disney laugher, ‘The Proposal,’ which bows June 19.
