Daily Hot Celebrity Fix: Sean Penn Joins Egyptian Protesters
Protests on Egypt get Hollywood attention as Sean Penn joins the action. Penn joined Egyptian actor, Khaled el-Nabawi, in Tahrir Square, waving a flag of Egypt. The Hollywood actor travelled thousands of miles to join the swelling crowd of activists who are demanding the transfer of military power and emergency laws to civilians.
Penn deeply moved by the mass action and he was quoted by an Egyptian paper saying that the rest of the world is inspired by the people’s collective desire and call to action for freedom. In the newspaper interview, Penn also said that he does not expect issues to be resolved overnight. There are still constitutional issues to overcome.
The protesters want to speed things up because they are worried that supporters of the overthrown president, Hosni Mubarak, will creep their way in office. Protesters recall the struggle they had to endure during those dramatic weeks in which they all banded together to call on Mubarak to step down.
Sean Penn was invited by the Egyptian actor to visit his country. Nabawi said that he was trying to prove to the rest of the world that Egypt is not a dangerous place despite the uprisings. Sean Penn himself could vouch for that. The people got more than their share of celebrity fix with the presence of Penn among them.
It is not strange for Hollywood celebrities to show their support to the causes they believe in. It was mighty brave of Penn to go to a foreign country and march along with people on the streets.
