“Tha Carter IV” Sells 964,000 Copies in Debut Week
Lil Wayne’s ninth solo album ‘Tha Carter IV’ has moved 964,000 copies during the first seven days of its US debut- a feat that has sent it straight to the number one spot on the latest billboard charts.
The diminutive rapper could have rewritten record books if ‘Tha Carter IV’ had sold 36,000 copies more. He would’ve then become the first rapper to produce consecutive albums with million copies sold in their respective debut weeks.
The rest of the pack wasn’t even close as the second place-finishers Red Hot Chilli Peppers were able to sell just 229,000 copies of their latest compilation ‘I’m With You.’ House music producer came in at the fifth spot with sales of 56,000 units of his fifth album ‘Nothing but the Beat,’ even though it had big name featured artists like Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg and Usher.
Lil Tunechi also performed at the recent MTV Video Music Award and it is understood to have aroused more interest in “Tha Carter IV” ahead of its August 29 release. The album also became the highest-opening Carter series product and bested Tha Carter III’s sales of 957,000 by a good seven thousand.
Tha Carter IV’s figure of 963,000 also includes 300,000 from digital sales coming in through Apple’s iTunes store.
The “6 Foot 7 Foot” MC is expected to continue his Billboard supremacy in the coming weeks too, since there are no major releases planned in the near future.
