Eddie Murphy Being Lined Up to Host Comedy-Themed Oscars
It seems that producer Brett Ratner has decided that the next Academy Awards event will be comedy-themed and maybe that is why he fancies famous comedian Eddie Murphy to assume the hosting duties in February 2011’s ceremony.
Media reports are suggesting that Ratner, who has previously worked with Murphy on comedy flick “Tower Heist,” will recommend Nutty Professor’s name to Academy president Tom Sherak for the hosting duties.
A few small publications have already started claiming that Murphy has been given the final approval but the authenticity of their claim hasn’t been verified yet.
When last month, Ratner was given the responsibility to produce the next episode of Oscars, he instantly said that his preferred theme would be of comedy. He then told The Wrap that he already has a good idea about the show’s anchor but refused to disclose the candidates.
He said, “That’s the most important thing I can accomplish. If people can sit in that theater and laugh, and people can watch at home around the world and laugh, then I’ve accomplished what I want to do.”
The 2011 Academy Awards hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway were accused boring the viewers and therefore, it is understandable why Ratner would opt for comedy in general and Murphy in particular to reignite fans’ interest in the most prestigious award ceremony.
