Game’s “R.E.D. Album” Tops Billboard Before “Tha Carter IV” Runs Wild
It is a well-known fact that Game’s latest compilation titled “The R.E.D. Album” had to endure a lot of internal politics and post-production issues to finally get its release date right. The Game’s fourth studio album took almost two years in the making and once all the recording was done, his Dr. Dre-owned record label Aftermath Entertainment scrapped several release dates before finally giving “The R.E.D. Album” the green light.
But the response that the album has garnered suggests that it was worth the wait as Nielsen SoundScan has reported that the disc has debuted at the number one spot, selling 98,000 units in its very first week in the US stores.
This isn’t the first occasion when a Game-album has managed to top the list during its first week. His debut disc “The Documentary” and sophomore effort “Doctor’s Advocate” also debuted at No. 1. The only exception so far was his third album “LAX,” which sold 239,000 copies to open up at second.
“The R.E.D. Album” accompanied a lot of drama and therefore, Game has released a book titled “The R.E.D. Album” too, in which he has documented the multiple production setbacks that he had to face during its release. He has also talked about what it was like working with fellow-big name artist like Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross and Pharrell on R.E.D.
Jay-Z and Kanye West’s combo album “Watch the Throne” sold 94,000 units in R.E.D.’s debut week to take the second spot. But Game shouldn’t get too comfortable at the summit as Lil Wayne’s much hyped up album ” Game’s “R.E.D. Album” Tops Billboard Before “Tha Carter IV” Runs Wild ” was released earlier this week and according to Billboard, it is projected to move around 850,000. This means that Lil Tunechi will soon trump Game to snatch the top spot from his grasp.
