Late actress Farah Fawcett and actor Ryan O’Neil’s son Redmond O’Neil will not be going to jail after pleading guilty to one charge each of possession of heroin and a gun. Instead, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz has ordered the troubled son of Hollywood stars to live in a rehabilitation center for a full one year.

Additionally, Redmond will also be serving five years on probation and if he is found violating the terms of his probation, then District Attorney Spokeswoman Jane Robison said that he could spend up to three years behind the prison bars.

Redmond was apprehended by the police on August 2, after he failed to stop his vehicle at a red light. His erratic behavior led to the search of his vehicle, from which heroine was recovered. He has been in and out of rehabs and police custody since his teen years, so another arrest didn’t bother him back then. But one more incident of this nature could mean jail time for Redmond, whose troubles stem from the loss of his mother two years ago, according to his father Ryan.

Redmond’s lawyer Richard Pintal said that the nature of punishment handed to his client is a fair one as Redmond is clearly suffering from addiction and mental problems.

His dad Ryan was present in the court when the verdict was announced.
