Craig Ferguson Handles Anthrax with Humor
CBS must have made some wrong enemies as just days after death threats were released against senior talk show host David Letterman, a powder filled envelope was sent by unknown people at the office of Craig Ferguson’s talk show.
The contents of the package were initially handled by two of his office’s staff members but no one was hurt as the powder in the package wasn’t anthrax. It remains unclear whether it was just a prank or a real threat to CBS but whatever it was, Ferguson took it with humor.
First, he broke the news of the fake anthrax incident through his account on micro blogging website Twitter. “Ack! Someone mailed my show white powder & claimed it was anthrax. I’m not a big fan of that sort of thing,” he tweeted.
He then started his last night’s episode of “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” with a humorous monologue that mentioned the anthrax prank too.
He said, “Today someone sent, here, an envelope packed with white powder. I said I’ll test it for you if you want,” before adding, “The police were like, ‘No, no.’ They did the test it so it’s not dangerous. Please, relax everyone, calm your real authentic panic. You have no excuse to leave.”
Later on in the show, he cracked another joke about the powder that went something like that: “I was going to come out and talk about the earthquake, but I can’t do that now. Because the earthquake only scared millions of people on the East Coast, but the white powder did something much worse — it scared me.”
LAPD’s Detective Gus Villanueva told The Associated Press that the envelope was sent from an overseas location.
