“The Help” proved to be a little too much competition for “Conan the Barbarian,” as it dominated the second successive Friday at US box office and raked in an estimated figure of $5.8 million. If the DreamWorks-distributed movie continues at this rate, it could be set to make around $21 million, while its drop down rate from the opening week will also be less than 20%.

But “Conan the Barbarian,” which turned out to be a big hit for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80s, is out of luck this time around. The remake was made at a cost of $70 million but it earned merely $3.7 million on Friday. Conan was tipped to gross closer to $20 million by the experts but judging by its Friday’s performance, it seems it won’t even reach the double figures for the whole weekend.

Fox’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which saw its third Friday in theatres, grossed a respectable figure of $4.7 million and came second behind “The Help.”

The only worthwhile newcomer this weekend was 4-D movie “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World,” whose Friday’s score was $309 million. Made at a cost of $27 million, Spy Kids 4 seems destined to meet its $12 million expectations for its opening weekend.

“Friday Night,” another remake of the original movie of the 1980s, failed to impress the cinemagoers and grossed just $3 million. As a result, its projected earning has been cut in half to $7 million.

Anne Hathaway’s “One Day” also debuted on Friday, making just $1.9 million but remaining on course to meeting its $5 million target for the weekend.
