Anne Hathaway at Ease with Her British Role in “One Day”
Anne Hathaway garnered tons of criticism after pictures of her dressed in Catwoman suit were released in media. She was instantly rejected by the fans and experts, who were of the opinion that Hathaway’s ‘miss goody’ persona is absolutely not suitable for a character that is supposed to show a lot of fight.
But in the upcoming movie adaptation of David Nichols’ novel titled “One Day,” Hathaway is very much like her usual self. The movie, which hits the theatres next week, revolved around a British couple, who meet each other on 15th July 1988. The movie then shows the major events of the next twenty years of their lives and relationship.
“One Day” lends enough screen time to both the characters names Emma and Dexter and it shows how their personalities change over time. Hathaway says that her character is a lot like her, as she was also unconfident about love and romance during her formative years.
Speaking in an interview with New York Daily News, she explained, “Confidence is not something that blooms overnight. It takes time to develop – at least it has for me. Emma is a terrifically insecure person at the beginning of the story. It takes her a long time to understand and define who she is, and I can really relate to that part of her character. Of course, Emma is much wittier and more interesting than I will ever be, and that’s really intimidating.”
But those who have been a part of the screening process, said that Hathaway struggled to nail the Yorkshire accent, with one fans telling Daily Mail, “There’s nothing Yorkshire about Anne Hathaway’s accent,” while another chiming in with: ‘It sounds a generic posh English accent.”
“One Day” will be in theatres across the United States on August 24.
