“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is on track to beat the experts’ predictions, as it earned $19.8 million on its first day in theatres.

The seventh movie of the “Planet of the Apes” franchise was tipped to make around $30 million but it reached two-thirds of that number in one day only. If it keeps on generating this kind of strong business, it could end up earning $50 million on its debut weekend.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a reboot movie that will serve as the base of a new movie series. The movie revolves around a scientist Will Rodman (played by James Franco), who creates a genetically engineered chimpanzee in order to use it for experimentation that could lead to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. But the chimp becomes too intelligent and ends up leading a revolt against the humans.

It got a good review by Paste Magazine’s Jonathan Hickman, who stated, “‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ is one of the most literate science fiction action films in some time. It’s a rare prequel that fits in perfectly in front of the 43-year-old original that inspired it.”

Apart from Franco, the Rupert Wyatt-directed sci-fi flick features Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis, Chelah Horsdal and Brian Cox among others.
