American Idol winner, Lee DeWyze gets engaged

As you’ll recall, when Lee DeWyze won last year’s American Idol he was stunned and rather pleased. Well, he’s now got more good news – He just got engaged.

“I’m excited,” says 25-year old Lee, who asked upcoming actress Jonna Walsh to marry him on July 16.

Quite the romantic, Lee posed the question on a private yacht, over a glass of champagne, during a fireworks show at Disney World in Orlando.

“Jonna’s a Disney freak,” says Lee. “They were playing love songs and I got down on one knee and asked her. I had a speech prepared…but that went out the window; I just asked her. She started crying and I said, ‘Is that a yes?’”

It was. And their wedding is now booked for the fall of next year. They met last October while casting actors for the video to Lee’s single ‘Sweet Serendipity’ and Jonna had quite an effect;

“I saw her and said, ‘Let’s go with her.’ I thought she was cute.” he recalls. “We went to a Lakers game and we just clicked out of the gate.”

One snag: Lee supports the Chicago Bulls. Slight problem? “We’re seeing a counselor about that,” he replied.

And Lee had a pretty good idea Jonna would love the ring – her sister helped choose it. Today the pair are inseparable and life seems quite good;

“We do all kinds of stuff together,” says Lee of their shared life in Southern CA. “We go to plays and exhibits and Jonna is really into the planning for the wedding.”

And despite only being together for eight months Lee knows she’s the right girl for him;

“When you know, you know,” he says. “We both feel that way. We don’t need to be together 20-years before we figure it out.”

Michael Douglas split with his first wife, Diandra in 1999 after 22 years. Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison split in 2004 after after 21 years together. Methinks the man might still be heading for trouble. Who agrees?…
