Rihanna, Liam Neeson join forces for ‘Battleship’ [video]

Rihanna has a large and passionate fanbase who eagerly follow her every move, and now they can watch her play a Hollywood board-game as she appears with Alexander Skarsgard and Liam Neeson in ‘Battleship.’

The movie’s based on the well-loved board-game, but with a lot of Hollywood thrown in. This trailer delivers far more explosions and carnage that you’d usually get in the boxed version but that’s how these movie types roll.

The story is simple – A young naval officer [Taylor Kitsch,] is secretly in love with his boss’s daughter [Brooklyn Decker.] But the boss [Liam Neeson] hates him anyway so he sends the youngster to fight a huge bunch of aliens who just emerged from the ocean and are threatening to level the world.

Reviews based on the trailer are mixed. Yahoo modestly calls it “an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force,” but the overall opinion seems to be if you loved ‘Transformers’ this is right up your street. And that might not be good.

The movie – which reportedly cost around $200-million – hits theaters on May 18 of next year, but is it classy or kitsch? You be the judge…
