Until the recently-concluded Comic-Con International, everyone associated with “The Walking Dead” had given the vibe that things were cool in their camp. The cast and the behind-the-camera crew didn’t show any signs of any major changes and everything looked hunky-dory.

But earlier today, Deadline reported that Frank Darabont has quit his position as the director of the “The Walking Dead” with immediate effect. According to the publication’s report, Darabont may opt for some other role that will keep him associated with the series. The reason behind his decision to vacate the position is that he found the daily grind of making a TV show a little too much for his liking.

The news is even more surprising due to the fact that Darabont spent nearly five years convincing
TV networks to give his show a slot. And to leave the show after just one season doesn’t seem right at all.

Adapted from Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore’s comic book series, “The Walking Dead” is a post-apocalyptic series that Daramont brought to the TV screens. There were neither any report of creative differences with the comic book writers, nor were there any rumors of major rifts between the show’s team and the network.

Since Deadlines report, the news has been confirmed by other media agencies too. However, the identity of the new director hasn’t been revealed yet. The easiest solution would be to promote second ranking executive producer Glen Mazzara to the main spot.

The filming for The Walking Dead’s second season is already underway and the series is scheduled to air on AMC on October 16.
