CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

“Captain America: The First Avenger” has replaced “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” as the number one movie on the box office charts of the North American region.

According to early assessments, Captain America raked in $65 million on its first weekend in US and Canadian cinemas.

This means that the final Harry Potter movie, which made $48.1 million this weekend (its second overall) on the North American soil, had to take the second spot behind the American superhero.

The Harry Potter magic settled down a great deal this weekend, which is in stark contrast to its debut weekend, when it earned a record breaking total of $169.2 million.

“Captain America: The First Avenger” features actors like Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper and Samuel L Jackson.

The movie revolves around a young soldier named Steve Rogers (played by Evans), upon whom several experiments are performed due to which, he develops extraordinary abilities.

A large chunk of the film was shot in Manchester, whose Northern Quarter was redesigned to make it look like New York City of the 1940s.

The third spot on the North American box office charts is occupied by another newcomer “Friends with Benefits.” The Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis-starrer comedy made $18.5 during its first weekend on the big screens.

Fourth and fifth spots were occupied by Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon and another new comedy flick “Horrible Bosses.”
