Garfield Wants to Be “The Amazing Spider-Man” Forever
Andrew Garfield, who plays the central character in the forthcoming installment of the Spider-Man franchise, has said that his part in the movie could be the defining opportunity of his career.
Speaking in a quick word with Reuters at Comic-Con, where the first snippets of the movie were show to the public, the new Spider-Man remarked, “I could play this character for the rest of my life.”
Thousands of people gather annually at the Comic-Con International, where clips and promo material of new movies are put on display. This year the major attraction was the exclusive Spider-Man material that delighted the attendees of the festival.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” will rewind the franchise to the time when Peter Parker was a clumsy teenager and still coming to terms with his new found powers and web-weaving abilities.
The first three flicks of the series raked in a massive $2.5 billion internationally, but some drastic changes have been made in the upcoming sequel to keep the fans interested. Out went Toby McGuire, who had been the series protagonist until now and Garfield was drafted in.
Director Sam Raimi also departed to make way for Marx Webb, who has hit indie movie “500 Days of Summer” to his credit.
Garfield told the media, “I think Marc wanted to make it as authentic as possible … what happens to this kid? What happens to a kid if he really truly gets these superpowers? But also what the real struggle it is to be a teenager.”
The crime fighting Spider-Man will surely get the chance to save many in the movie, but can he save the franchise which according to some people, has gone stale? You’ll have to wait until next year to get that answer.
Here is the movie’s official trailer:
