Wyclef Jean Promises the ‘Feel Good’ Factor on Next Solo Album
Wyclef Jean cannot be confined by the boundaries of musical genres. He entered the music scene with the hip hop-oriented Fugees group, but after its disbandment, Jean let his love for ‘all’ music get the better of him and so he collaborated with a bunch of artists from other genres.
His fusions with musicians of different styles have earned him recognition from a much wider audience and he wants to repeat the ‘hit’ trick one again on his next album.
Speaking in a backstage interview with MTV News at a Zumba fitness convention in Orlando, Wyclef explained, “My music is always like an iPod, like when you put on an iPod. It’s just you could never define me or put me in a box.”
While he has worked with varied artists like Shakira, Bono, Carlos Santana, etc, the sound and theme of his joint ventures has mostly been upbeat. His Fugees’ smash hits “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La”; “Hips Don’t Lie” with Shakira; and “No, No, No” with girl-band Destiny’s Child are all examples of his preference for dance-inducing music. And the Haitian wants to keep the trend going for his ninth solo album as well.
Wyclef added, “The album is going to be called Feel Good Music and I’m just taking my time. My albums, you have to listen to them from beginning to end. It’s going to be like a stage play, but it’s definitely gonna feel good.”
