If you love The Office and were worried how Dunder Mifflin would cope without Steve Carrell, your worries are over – NBC just confirmed James Spader has joined Dunder as the new boss.

Robert California, the career-driven, borderline onanist whom James last brought to your screens in last season’s finale in May will now join season eight as a regular feature.

“James will reprise his role as Robert California, this uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior,” said Executive Producer and fellow cast member, Paul Lieberstein. “James has an energy that’s completely his own. We’re thrilled he’s joining our cast.”

The future of the show was causing concern after Steve announced his desire to leave. But when Kathy Bates also revealed plans to bow out the NBC suits were in panic mode.

But this news still leaves the Scranton team with no boss. Will Ferrell stood in for a while but the producers are apparently planning to recruit from within – Insiders say either John Krasinksi, Rainn Wilson or Ed Helms will get the job, but nothing’s signed and settled as yet…which sounds like a PR ploy from a show on the wane.

The question is, will James fit in? Robert is a pretty abrasive character, so will his arrival save the show or just make life at Dunder much worse? We await your input in the comments below…
