Lady Gaga denies ‘using’ gay fans
Lady Gaga is not exactly famous for avoiding publicity but after being accused by some critics of ‘using’ gay fans to sell albums the Lady is now keen to hit back.
“That’s one of the most ridiculous statements anyone can make about me,” the 25-year old singer told reporters. “I’d say the top thing I think about every day, other than my fans and my family being healthy, is social justice and equality.”
And it can be argued that proof has been seen – When Target planned to sell a special edition of ‘Born This Way,’ Gaga was pleased. But when members of the LGBT community pointed out the store had funded Tom Emmer – a known ant-gay advocate – in his bid for the Governorship of Minnesota she met Target’s bosses and sank the whole deal.
“My love for my gay fans is just pure, authentic love for them as supporters of me, and me feeling connected to their struggles,” she says. “Taking an ambiguous stance is not what I’m about. You’re either in or you’re out. I’m from New York – I know BS.”
Lady G says she’s even fine with people taking pot-shots at her dress sense and singing. “It comes with the territory of being a public figure,” she says. But how does she feel about being compared to her peers like Madonna and Barbra Streisand?
“I feel so connected to Madonna in a lot of ways, and to Barbra and the women who came before me. There’s no drama, no jealousy or competition. They’re just happy to see other women winning.”
