Ryan Dunn remembered at memorial service
In a tasteful service mercifully free of the Westboro Church, family and friends gathered in Westchester Pennsylvania this morning for a memorial service to remember ‘Jackass’ star, Ryan Dunn.
Among those in attendance were Ryan’s close friend, Bam Margera and his wife Melissa, and Johnny Knoxville engaged the audience with tales of good times and pranks shared with Dunn.
Also there were ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ stars Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney and Bam’s folks, Phil and April Margera who have been quoted as saying they regarded Ryan like a son.
The Kings of Leon also paid tribute, dedicating the song ‘McFearless’ to the late actor at a concert in London last night.
The 34-year old actor died on Monday while Ryan and his friend, Zachary Hartwell were driving home from a night with friends at a local bar, ‘Barnaby’s of America.’ But Police now say they have no plans to pursue charges against the bar’s owners.
In a sad twist to the story, while recording the commentary for the ‘Jackass’ season five DVD in 2006 Bam even remarked on Ryan’s risky driving; “He’s gonna eat it one of these times in a car accident,” he says on the disk.
A separate memorial will be held on Saturday for Zachary, and Ryan will be laid to rest in his home state of Ohio probably next week. A public memorial is also planned but that date has yet to be fixed.
Instead of flowers or cards Ryan’s parents asked fans to send donations in his memory to ‘Garth Brooks Teammate for Kids,’ a non-profit that matches athletes and media names with charities that help children with special needs.
