Hacker jailed for Lady Gaga music theft
After an extensive investigation by police an 18-year old hacker has been handed an 18-month jail term for stealing unreleased music by Lady Gaga, Leona Lewis and others.
A court in the small German city of Duisburg heard that by using trojan-horse software and infected emails the man, who called himself ‘DJ Stolen’ penetrated computers used by executives at the stars labels, and even the singers themselves, and stole digital copies of unfinished work.
He is then thought to have made over $21,000 by selling songs from the victims, including Lady GaGa, Leona Lewis, Ke$ha, Justin Timberlake and Mariah Carey.
At the hearing on Friday a Judge ruled the teen was “driven more by a desire for recognition than by criminal intent” and ordered that he should serve 18-months at a detention center, plus undergo a course of therapy for an addiction to being online.
After the court appearance the teen wrote to Gaga via a local newspaper and offered belated apologies;
“Dear Lady GaGa,” he wrote. “I’m unbelievably sorry. I am ashamed of what I have done. I did not think about the consequences. I never thought it would go this far.”
An accomplice also received an 18-month suspended sentence for his part in the multiple thefts.

Great to know that he got caught for illegally tapping the music executives and singer’s emails and computers. I think a lot of hackers do this kind of stealing too, it is just that they have not been caught yet. I wonder if NBI can actually caught these people who steal music via online too? I think they should build more prisons because I am sure there are millions of people doing it.
I didn’t know that NBI can catch these hackers, it seems hard for them to be traced since it’s an online crime. They should also catch those guys who leaks these artists’ album way before its release date. Beyonce is the last huge pop star who’s a victim of this. She’ll be releasing an album next week but it already leaked two weeks ago. This is not good for the artist because it lowers their first-week album sales.
