For what is sadly not the first time in her career Amy Winehouse left fans in limbo and was booed off the stage at a disastrous performance in Serbia last night.

Playing at Belgrade’s premier music venue, Kalemegdan Park in front of 20,000 fans the 27-year old Grammy winner arrived an hour late, stumbled round the stage during songs for no viable reason and seemed unable to remember the words.

And this went on for over an hour. More than once she just dropped the microphone and walked off, leaving her overworked band to fill in until she returned.

Fans, who had paid as much as $57 for tickets in a country where the average salary is only $428 a month responded with cat-calls and jeers and dozens walked out.

“It was horrible,” said Ivana Bilic, a fan. “She should have canceled the whole thing, rather than appear at all like this.”

And Serbian media has been less than kind. Reviews of what was planned as the opener of a 12-day European tour called it a ‘scandal’ and a ‘disaster.’ One national paper ‘Blic Daily’ labeled it “the worst in the history of Belgrade.”

This sad display gets more disturbing when you realize Amy completed a course of rehab in London before starting the tour. Staff at the hotels booked for the trip are also under orders to remove any alcohol from her room.

The next dates on the tour were tomorrow night in Istanbul then Athens on Wednesday, but both have been canceled.

“Despite feeling sure she wanted to fulfill these commitments, Amy has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home,” says a statement released last night by her reps.
