In an admirable effort to settle the dust after his on-stage rant against gay folks, ‘30 Rock’ star Tracy Morgan met some LGBT youth yesterday at the Ali Forney Center, an LGBT homeless center in the heart of New York.

Tracy, 42, met Jayden Love and Raciel Castillo among others, plus Elke Kennedy whose 20-year-old son was killed in an anti-gay hate crime.

“Our parents’ inability to accept us changed our lives for the worse,” Love and Castillo explained in a statement issued by GLAAD, who arranged the encounter. “We hope that our stories have the power to change not only Tracy’s perspective, but those of any parent who may be struggling with accepting their child.”

The trouble began on June 3rd when Tracy made some unguarded comments about his reaction if his son acted gay. These caused an uproar, with even his ‘30 Rock’ cast-mates Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey denouncing his views. Tracy apologized and this meeting was part of his attempt to make some much-needed repairs.

And he’s not done yet – Tracy is now on route to Tennessee, the scene of his error, to make amends with members of the local gay culture. And Jarrett Barrios, president of GLAAD clearly admires Tracy’s commitment.

“In a state that continues to put anti-gay laws on the books it’s now more important than ever to e let Tennesseans know homophobia has no place on or off the stage,” he told E.

The man sticks to his word, but this would have been less painful if he’d been more choosy with ‘jokes.’ Jarrett likes him, but do you believe Tracy’s for real?
