Democratic Rep., Anthony Weiner resigns after ‘sexting’ scandal
In the final act of a drama which has both enthralled and disturbed half the nation, Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner has just resigned after more than eleven years in office in the wake of his bizarre sexting scandal.
The 46-year old politician assumed office in January 1999, serving as the representative for the areas of Brooklyn and the Bronx for seven unbroken terms. But the scandal and unending revelations relating to women with whom he shared adult-themed photos and tweets had made his position untenable.
“I’d hoped to be able to continue the work my constituents elected me to do,” Weiner explained. “Unfortunately, the distraction I have created has made that impossible, so today I am announcing my resignation from Congress.”
It’s believed the now-former Congressman reached the decision after pressure from colleagues and long talks with his wife, Huma Abedin, a trusted aide to Secretary-of-State, Hillary Clinton.
The widely expected announcement, during which Mr. Weiner was frequently interrupted by hecklers was made at a press conference held a senior citizens center in his beloved Brooklyn constituency in New York’s 9th District.
In a disturbing footnote it’s believed Mr. Weiner began his ‘distraction’ by sending one woman, Las Vegas blackjack dealer Lisa Weiss adult-themed texts and photos just eight weeks after marrying Ms. Abedin in July of last year, at a lavish ceremony attended by former President Clinton.
Ms. Abedin is now pregnant with the couple’s first child but no hint or announcement has so far emerged regarding any plans to separate or perhaps end their marriage.

It’s just the right thing to do now, Rep. Anthony Weiner’s personal life is too messed up and he’s being criticized by the public. So it is better for him to just resign from work and focus on this public humiliation. He should fix his personal problems first then if he’s ready and out of the woods, he can regain his reputation slowly but surely. This is a huge controversial issue, it may be hard for him to get back but I’m sure he can if he wants to.
Serves him right! He is a public official, he may not like what his position asks of him, but he should do what’s morally right…sexting is not one of those. He just got married and not even a year has passed, he’s already playing the field. Shame on you! He had no choice but to resign from office. At least he can save his honor but not his dignity.

Honor?! There’s no honor on what he did. It was right for him to resign ’cause the public doesn’t want a sleazy, cheating and no good official anymore. Why do all these politicians think that they can get away with everything just because they’re already in power and very influential? They need to know public service really means.
