NBA champion’s teen daughter dies

A former NBA star who shined brightly in the limelight by shooting last second shots is now in severe emotional pain.
Robert “Big Shot Rob” Horry’s 17-year-old daughter died Tuesday after a lifelong battle with a rare genetic disorder. According to reports, Ashlyn Horry, 17, suffered from 1p36 deletion syndrome, an affliction that develops when part of the first chromosome is missing.
Horry said the death of his daughter is very painful for his family since they consider her as the light in their house. He said for the past 17 years of her life his daughter endured multiple surgeries and several other close calls due to her one of a kind illness.
The former NBA star said his daughter’s death might be painful but he already learned to accept it. He played 16 seasons in the NBA, winning seven championships, the most of any player not to have played on the 1960s Boston Celtics.
He is one of only two players to have won NBA championships with three different teams: two with the Houston Rockets, three with the Los Angeles Lakers and two with the San Antonio Spurs. Because of his clutch shooting in important games, he has earned the nickname “Big Shot Rob”.
Horry now works as a commentator on ESPN.

That’s so sad. My condolences to Horry and his family. I’m sure that his daughter is now at peace, no more pain, disappointment and sadness. I admire her zest for life, I can’t imagine the struggle she has to face all those years knowing that no matter how many surgeries, medications and prayers that she had and made, it will still come to this in the end.
Wow, 7 championship titles! Talk about luck. Good things really come to good people. Although it’s sad, what happened to her daughter. I know it’s hard for Horry and his family right now to adjust and accept the situation. Her daughter died happy ’cause she was surrounded by people who loved her, she was happy until the very end.
