Y Combinator brings on new partners
Y Combinator, a growing venture fund, officially announced 4 new “part-time” partners today. Coming aboard are Justin.TV founders Emmett Shear and Justin Kan, Loopt founder Sam Altman and Posterous founder Garry Tan. Tan has been working as a designer-in-residence for the past year at YC while the other three have been helping with the notoriously but well-manged 10-minute interviews candidates go through.
The fund is known for helping super-early stage startups. After a three month summer program, the young (and sometimes older) entrepreneurs are put through the VC/investor ringer as they try to raise money for their ideas.
Head honcho Paul Graham wrote in a statement, “This may sound corny, but they also make YC a happier place. We’ve known these guys for years (Sam, Emmett, and Justin were all in the very first YC batch in summer 2005) and have been through a lot with them. They’re good eggs, and it’s nice to have them around.”
Its recent successful alumni include $200 million exits from its Heroku founders, who sold to Salesforce earlier this year.
Current partners include Graham, Jessica Livingston, Harj Taggert, Trevor Blackwell and Robert Morris.

Way too many companies getting funding before they are ready – or even needed – or even wanted. It’s just a VC dump to see what floats to the top. Y Combinator is taking advantage of a really smart young people.
