Ice-T renews ‘Law & Order,’ Jennifer Love Hewitt fades out

As they head toward the Summer hiatus many shows are now shuffling cast members and renewing or offering contracts. But Jennifer Love Hewitt, who was reportedly in line to join ’Law & Order SVU’ won’t be among the new stars.

The hugely popular show is now prepping for its 14th season and some faces are already gone – Chris Meloni is out, but Mariska Hargitay has a new featured role that will see her joining the cast several times in the season.

Ice-T is also locked in with a new contract, and he seemed quite pleased when he told all his fans;

“I’ve just locked in my new SVU deal,” he tweeted. “So I’ll officially be back for the next 2 years at least.”

Insiders say Chris’s replacement could be a female officer, sharing cases with Mariska’s ‘Dr. Benson’ on-screen. But the talk of Jennifer taking over when Mariska ends her commitment in late season are no more than that – The NBC suits have made it clear they have no plans to sign her.

Jennifer’s absence should cause no real pain, but Chris Meloni’s departure was a major upset for Hargitay;

“For the past 12 years Chris has been my partner and friend, both on screen and off,” she told reporters. “He inspired me every day with his integrity. I love him deeply and will miss him. I’m so excited to see what he’ll do next.”

There’s no news on his plans as yet but you can bet that will change. He just left one of the biggest brands on TV so he’ll be eager to stay in the spotlight. I’d say Ice-T is essential and Mariska will be a big loss, but what’s your review of this news?….
