(HMG Celebrity News) – Sad to hear former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife of 25-years Maria Shriver, announced their separation late Monday, saying  in a joint statement that they decided to do so after “a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together.”

The breakup (let’s skip the terminator puns) of the politically bipolar couple comes about four months after Schwarzenegger ended a two-term run as California governor, and has begun lining up work in Hollywood again.  Shriver, a member of the Kennedy political dynasty and the daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy left her job as an NBC News correspondent after Schwarzenegger took office to be the first lady of California.

Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 55, met in 1977, through an introduction by Tom Brokaw at a charity tennis tournament, married in 1986, and have 4 children.

TMZ sources say Maria has been extremely unhappy in her marriage for years, complaining about Arnold’s out of control ego, as well as his womanizing.  There sources go on to say Maria’s religious views caused her deep distress over whether to seek a divorce. TMZ sources go on to say that once Maria finally decided to separate from Arnold and moved out he pulled a 180 and has been “working extremely hard” to win her back.
