Paula Deen in secret battle with diabetes, report claims

[HMG Celebrity News] – For years, TV chef Paula Deen has been famous for extravagant recipes laced sugars and fats and now perhaps it’s come back to haunt her – The 64-year old cook reportedly has type-two diabetes.

Paula’s began her cooking career as a catering business ‘The Bag Lady’ in 1989. She then opened a restaurant in Savannah, Georgia in 1996, which is where the Food Network found her in ’99 and gave her a show. And she hasn’t stopped sautéing since.

The diabetes was apparently diagnosed some years ago, yet despite being ordered by her doctors to avoid them herself Paula continued to promote the very foods that can cause it. And a friend is quite clear on her motives;

“She was worried if the secret got out it would make her look like a hypocrite,” they told the Enquirer. “The very thing that made her rich has made her a poster child for what could happen if you follow her footsteps.”

Friends say Paula was crushed by the dark diagnosis, yet her love for rich foods like her ‘Ladies Brunch Burger’ – a hamburger, with bacon and a fried egg, served in a glazed donut – went on unchanged until she finally saw the risks and relented.

“At first she resisted Doctors’ orders to change her diet,” says one close source. “But eventually she realized if she didn’t it would put her in an early grave.”

Currently, 23-million people share the illness in the US alone. The high blood-sugar levels it enables can cause heart attacks and even kidney failure in rare cases, but deaths from the disease are almost unheard of.

Paula’s second husband, Michael Groover is also credited with making Deen see the light;

“Paula eventually modified her eating habits by cutting out the large portions of high-fat, high calorie foods,” we’re told. “She even dropped quite a bit of weight.”

And the friend says a large helping of overdue honesty is now Deen’s best defense;

“Hopefully she’ll come clean to her fans,’ they mused. “Her honesty could help people change their lives.”

So that’s the news, guys – A famous, rich chef risked the lives of her fans by promoting the very foods she now avoids, and some say she’s done this to stay rich and famous. That’s one opinion, but what’s your review?…
