French President’s wife, Carla Bruni rumored to be pregnant

(HMG Celebrity News) – As we recently told you, David and Victoria Beckham are expecting a child, and it seems the fashion is spreading – Reports from France suggest Carla Bruni, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy is also with child.

Carla and Nicolas married in February of 2008 after a very brief romance and she’s often told reporters of her desire to have children with the 56-year old leader;

“I hope to soon, if I am young enough,” she’s quoted as saying. ”It would be a dream.”

However, all may not be as it seems – The main source of this story is the French fashion magazine ‘Closer’ – and they’ve published similarly unfounded tales three times in three years.

The article also claims Carla’s in the early weeks of gestation, so the child would rather conveniently arrive just before her husband faces re-election – which also inspires doubts.

Last Christmas while visiting a shrine in India, the 43-year old former model told a cleric she was praying for a son. But sources at the President’s official residence, the Elysee Palace in Paris have been silent, and even members of Sarkozy’s own government have said nothing. So the story looks weak.

In their defense the magazine claims Sarkozy’s people have been told about Carla’s ‘condition’ but were told not to discuss it. And Closer has several sources in the fashion world who know Carla, so their writers stand by the tale;

”We would not have revealed this information without being completely certain about it,” Laurence Pieau, a scribe for Closer told the Mail. “And this is a risky pregnancy bearing in mind she’s 43.”

This would be the couple’s first child together — Carla has a son from a previous marriage and Nicolas has three from two previous wives. But she’s at the wrong end of the ideal age range, so a pregnancy could really mean problems.

The entire story, however, may already be dead – The highly regard French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’ now says Marisa Bruni – Carla’s own mother – has denied the whole story.

So the rumors say yes, but her own Momma denies it. Whose version do you believe, guys?
