Bradley Cooper mulling star role in remake of ‘The Crow’
[HMG Celebrity News] – For an industry supposedly based on creativity Hollywood has remade a lot of bad movies lately, but their latest mental misfire is not only a bad idea it could even star the wrong actor – Bradley Cooper is now in talks to remake ‘The Crow.’
First made in 1994, the story concerns a guitarist named Eric Draven [played by Brandon Lee] who returns from the dead to avenge his own murder. One by one he hunts down his killers and removes them from the land of the living in some superbly dramatic ways.
Brandon was just 28 when the movie was shot – and he died on the set. And the cheese-heads in tinsel-town think even a movie with a tragic backstory like that needs a remake.
They sound pretty serious, too – E-Online says Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who directed the 2007 horror flick, ‘28 Weeks Later’ has already signed on to direct. There’s no word on whether Bradley will sign for sure or who else could be cast, but Brandon would be one tough act to follow.
So why, you may wonder, do we need a remake? There was a sequel in 1996, then a TV series, then two direct-to-video creations that are better forgotten. So the chief inspiration is probably money – The Crow cost just $15-million to make but it grossed $144-million – mostly due to the huge publicity caused by Lee’s tragic death.
And in today’s Hollywood, numbers like that are all the reason they need.
Bradley was great in ‘Nip/Tuck,’ ‘Alias’ and ‘Law & Order,’ but he was never made for this role. The idea of a remake is bad enough, but add the wrong actor and there’s just too much fail for one screen.
Do you think it’s a good plan or do the producers need help? Let’s get your reaction and see where we stand…
