Jeff Buckley Movie to Begin Filming This Fall

(HMG Celebrity News) – Fans of the talented, enigmatic, musician Jeff Buckley who died tragically young will be pleased to know a new film documenting the late singer/songwriter’s life is in development. The forthcoming new biopic featuring his original music is to be directed by Welcome To The Rileys filmmaker Jake Scott, son of Ridley Scott, according to Deadline.  Scott has previously directed a number of music videos, including those for Oasis’ ‘Morning Glory’ and The Strokes’ ‘Reptilia’.  Jeff, a musician in the early ’90s, and son of musician Tim Buckley, was a quiet man who shunned fame. He released a seminal album called “Grace” and spent two years touring before starting a new recording for his next album but before it could be released, the singer drowned at age 30 on June 4, 1997, during a spontaneous evening swim fully clothed in Wolf River in Tennessee when he was reportedly caught in the wake of a passing boat. Buckley’s autopsy showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in his system and the death was ruled as an accidental drowning.

Since his death, some material from his unfinished album, “My Sweetheart The Drunk” have been released, with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” reaching #1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs. Buckley has been the subject of numerous documentaries: Amazing Grace: Jeff Buckley has been shown at various film festivals to critical acclaim. Fall in Light, Goodbye and Hello, a program about Buckley and his father produced for Netherlands TV in 2000 and Everybody Here Wants You, a documentary made in 2002 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The script which has already been completed comes from Ryan Jaffe and Buckley’s mom, Mary Guibert will be the executive producer. Production is slated to begin this fall. The big question now is who will take on the roll of Jeff Buckley?  James Franco, Jared Leto, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, …?
