Strange Casting: ‘Will and Grace’ star Sean Hayes will play Larry in ‘The Three Stooges’

(HMG Celebrity News) – Not too long ago the Farrelly brothers long planned Three Stooges film supposedly was going for high brow acting talent with Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro and  Sean Penn on board.  After that fell apart word was the brothers were going with more contemporary physical comedian types and Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg from “Saturday Night Live” and an Australian actor named Shane Jacobson were being strongly considered. Hard to put a category type for what this casting has now devolved into.  Recently Will Sasso known for his work on MADtv, had been cast as Curly and Hank Azaria was in talks to play Moe.  But now for a real head-scratcher as Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sean Hayes, most famous as Jack in “Will & Grace” has been cast as Larry.  I don’t find Hayes to be any more of a strange choice than Sean Penn to play Larry, but someone like Andy Samberg or Steven Wright seems like a far better fit.  The film now being produced by Twentieth Century Fox,is scheduled to begin shooting in April, and will be divided into three 27-minute shorts.
