Bryan Cranston joins Colin Farrell in ‘Total Recall’ reboot
[HMG Celebrity News] – As you’ll remember Colin Farrell is booked to revive Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role in the inexcusable remake of Total Recall. Today we learn those in charge of the remake have secured Bryan Cranston to play the film’s villain.
Made in 1990 the original movie told the story of Douglas Quaid who buys a virtual vacation to Mars from Rekall, Inc – a firm which sells fake, implanted memories. These make him think he’s a secret agent and he travels to Mars to help the population overthrow their tyrannical ruler.
In the remake that’s all gone – This time Quaid [Farrell] is a factory worker in the nation of New Shanghai who buys fake memories which make him think he’s a spy. He then gets involved in a battle with Vilos Cohagen – the leader of Euromerica who is plotting to invade Doug’s home town.
Bryan is booked to play Cohagen. You may recall the 55-year old triple Emmy winner from ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ and ‘Breaking Bad.’ He’s also on screen at the moment in Matthew McConaughey’s ‘The Lincoln Lawyer.’
The whole show will be directed by Len Wiseman, perhaps best known for ‘Underworld: Evolution’ made in 2006.
But while the plot may not pack the houses the supporting cast should help the movie’s reception – Kate Bosworth, Eva Mendes, and Jessica Biel are among the names now in talks for the two lead female roles.
With Colin and Bryan on-board and a well written story this could be a good film. The wild card is the director – Paul Verhoeven who directed the 1999 version is not known for subtlety but Len Wiseman’s past works are more about action than story, and that may hurt the plot.
The film is booked for release on August 3rd of next year, so what do you think – Is Colin right for the job? And which of the three ladies would you pick for the female roles? Let’s hear your views…
