Enrique Iglesias allegedly quits Britney Spears tour

[HMG Celebrity News] – Remember yesterday we told you Britney Spears would be touring with Enrique Iglesias? Well, she’s not. At least, not yet. Enrique has apparently canceled because he refused to be Brit’s opening act.

Sources close to the tour say the snag is mostly contractual issues and the shows could still happen, but others report the 35-year old Latino is having trouble with the concept he’d have to share both the stage and the billing.

The tour was due to start on June 17 in Sacramento with the final show in Toronto on August 13, but late yesterday a press release was unveiled by Enrique’s rep;

“Unfortunately, Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears will not be touring together,” it says. “Despite initial reports, Enrique will continue his solo tour in support of his new album. Enrique has great respect for Britney and is a longtime fan.  He is very sorry for the confusion this might have caused.”

But less diplomatic insiders say the cause of the problem is quite simple — “His ego couldn’t handle being her opening act,” says one well-placed snitch.

Lawyers and agents for the two stars worked on the details for weeks and finally settled on terms that would make Enrique a ‘co-headliner,’ – the same as Elton John and Billy Joel were on their recent tour. The reps sealed the deal in time for Tuesday’s announcement on GMA, but it’s now apparently dead.

As for the two singers, they’ve made no statement — Enrique is currently on tour in Europe and.an email to Spears’ reps drew no response.

Experience suggests this is a stunt to get press and the tour is still on, but what do you think – Should Brit share the stage with Enrique, pick someone else, or just do the tour on her own. What’s your choice?…
