Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral to be defaced by Westboro Baptist Church
[HMG Celebrity News] – When the news broke yesterday that Elizabeth Taylor had left us most people felt sad at her loss. But the Westboro Baptist Church saw a PR opportunity and now plan to picket her funeral.
Just minutes after the news of Elizabeth’s death was released Megan Phelps posted this message on Twitter:
“Actress Elizabeth Taylor has died,” it reads. “Used every gift she had to teach a generation to be proud whores. WBC will picket her funeral.”
Most people would be rightly repulsed by the merest idea of a gaggle of press-seeking simpletons protesting a service, but friends of the actress are ready for a fight.
“Bring it on!” one friend tells PopEater. “Elizabeth spent her whole life fighting for what’s right, and it looks like it will be no different now she’s gone.”
The reason the Church’s vast congregation of just 71 people are plotting this repulsive sideshow is Ms. Taylor’s support of AIDS research. The disease claimed her great friend Rock Hudson in 1985 and she was an fervent support of research from then on. But the Church does not approve.
“The only thing that would sadden Elizabeth is she wasn’t around to fight the ignorance and hate that still exists,” the friend says. “But she needn’t worry – We have all her friends and family to continue her work.”
The Kansas-based Church has picketed more than 800 funerals, including those of soldiers killed in the Iraq war, and their protests are sprinkled with banners bearing slogans like “Thank God For Dead Soldiers” and “God Hates You.” But despite the alleged plot to attend Ms. Taylor’s farewell her friends are showing restraint.
“Elizabeth would be first to acknowledge that freedoms don’t just exist when it’s convenient,” another friend tells the scribes. “But we have a voice, too. Don’t get angry, get even. The best way to oppose these people is to make a donation to Elizabeth’s AIDS Foundation.”[Which you can do right here.]
This protest must rank among the most boundlessly offensive and self-serving ideas ever formed by an allegedly sentient mind. The Church recently won a Supreme Court case over their first amendment right to offend people like this but what do you think of their plan?…
I strongly object to the use of the phrase “Of a sentient mind” in describing those wretched creatures.

I am so glad that she was laid to rest with dignity and they gave those disgusting inbred bastards from that church, the slip. I will be making my contribution, to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation today. I am living with HIV & it is because of her selfless, loving efforts that I am alive today. had it not been for this angel, there would have never been fundingfor research to help me live today, God bless you Elizabeth. I am so grateful that God sent you to us.
I presume they were stymied in their plans to picket her funeral. I understand that Forest Lawn had barricades to prevent anyone other than friends to enter the funeral park. Also the fact that she was buried within 48 hours as per Jewish tradition (she converted when she married Michael Wilding), although she requested that the funeral be delayed 15 minutes past the scheduled time so she could “arrive late at her own funeral.”… means that they did not have a chance to wreak their usual havoc. Elizabeth Taylor was a beautiful woman and a beautiful compassionate human being. She rests anywhere but in Hell!

People like this make me sick. I looked at this little buttball’s Twitter feed and I wanted to reach into my computer and give her a great big slap (and more). Liz Taylor was an inspiration to many people and what she did with her life was amazing. And the fact she supported AIDS research makes her more of a saint than these heartless beings who want to protest a day of mourning because the world lost a great actress and even better human being. Rest in peace Elizabeth, your friends will make sure these pigs don’t befoul what should be a day of sending you off to a better place.
A minor correction, I think you find it was prior to marrying Eddie Fisher that Elisabeth converted to Judaism. She was previously a Christian Scientist.
These people are animals, how dare they do this? Surely there must be a way to stop them. I thought hate speech in the United States was a criminal offense.
Two people on this site are wrong. She didn’t convert to Judaism for Michael Wilding or Eddie Fisher, she converted for Mike Todd. Wjatever reaspm she had for converting, wer were glad to have her.
