Gilbert Gottfried Fired as Voice of Aflac Duck After Insensitive Japan Jokes

(HMG Celebrity News) – Speaking of killing the golden goose, Gilbert Gottfried can kiss his job of being the voice of  the Aflac Duck, away.  The 56-year-old comedian made same horribly insensitive jokes under the Twitter username @RealGilbert, about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan:

“I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, ‘They’ll be another one floating by any minute now’”
“Japan called me. They said “maybe those jokes are a hit in the US, but over here, they’re all sinking.”

“What do the Japanese have in common with howard stern? They’re both radio active.”

“Japan is really advanced. They don’t go to the beach. The beach comes to them.”

Aflac does about 75% of its business in Japan so you can imagine they weren’t amused.  The Hollywood Reporter says Aflac is donating $100 million to disaster relief and will hold a nationwide casting call for Gilbert Gottfried’s replacement. Aflac had this to say in a statement:

“Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac. There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.”
