Richard Hatch Going Back to Prison For Still Not Paying the IRS

(HMG Celebrity News) – The original Survivor champion Richard Hatch was busy utilizing his same old aggressive and manipulative techniques on the contestants of Celebrity Apprentice.  But Richard is going back to the school of hard knocks Monday when he turns himself in to serve more prison time for refusing to play nice with the IRS.  This after already serving three years in jail for not paying taxes on the $1 million he got from winning the first Survivor in Borneo. Richard was released on the condition that he file his 2000 and 2001 taxes and start to make restitution on the $2 million he owes the IRS. Richard didn’t do any of this, so he’s going back to jail for 9 months.  Hatch’s public defender, unsuccessfully argued it would be inappropriate for Hatch to file amended tax returns because he is appealing the amount of back taxes he owes to the IRS in federal Tax Court.   While a six-month sentence was recommended by prosecutors, Hollywood Reporter says that US District Court Judge William Smith sentenced Richard to nine months in prison and gave the IRS permission to take 25 percent of his gross income for 26 months after he gets out of prison.

“It needs to be a severe punishment,” Judge Smith told Hatch during the sentencing. “That’s the only thing that will deter you in the future.”

NBC says that the live Celebrity Apprentice finale will air on May 22nd with or without Richard.  All other episodes of the NBC reality show were pre-recorded so though he will be in prison, Hatch will still appear in the competition.
