Lady Gaga Abandons Deal with Target Over Anti-Gay Politics?

Published on March 9, 2011 at 9:49 AM

(HMG Celebrity News) – Lady Gaga has apparently come to the realization that she got into bed with the wrong company.  Gaga is now pulling out of a deal where a special edition of her album was to be sold exclusively at Target, reportedly due to the retail chain’s anti-gay-rights stance. Lady Gaga agreed to sell the special edition of her gay-rights anthem “Born This Way” at Target last month after the company agreed to affiliate itself with gay charities. “Our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting these groups,” she said at the time of the decision. But The Advocate reported that a source close to Gaga says she broke off the deal as Target continued its support of political causes she did not agree with. Target has donated money to MN Forward, a political action committee that supported antigay candidate Tom Emmer in his failed 2010 run for governor of Minnesota. Then in December it was discovered that the company’s PAC retailer has also given $30,000 to anti-gay politicians.
