Mike Huckabee criticizes Natalie Portman for glorifying premarital pregnancy

(HMG Celebrity News) – Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee, who seems to be slipping more and more into right-wing buffoonery  has taken a shot at Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman for “glamorizing” single motherhood with an “out-of-wedlock” pregnancy. Huckabee speaking on the Michael Medved conservative radio  Show on Monday said:

“What’s troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of ‘Hey, look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married, but we’re having these children and they’re doing just fine.’ ”

“But there aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie,” added Huckabee, a Baptist preacher before he entered politics.

“And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses.  Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care.

“And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children (sic) wedlock.”

“You know, right now, 75 percent of black kids in this country are born out of wedlock, 61 percent of Hispanic kids — across the board, 41 percent of all live births in America are out of wedlock births.”

The former Arkansas governor said “out-of-wedlock” children by minorities are a “staggering” cost to this country. Medved led Huckabee a likely 2012 presidential candidate into the discussion  by asking if the “most wonderful gift” Portman’s fiancé Benjamin Millepied could give the actress is a wedding ring.  The “wonderful gift” snipe was taken from Portman’s acceptance speech for winning best actress for Black Swan, where she thanked her fiance, Benjamin Millepied, for giving her “my most important role of my life.”

Last week, Huckabee had to backpedal for claiming several times in a radio interview, that President Obama grew up in Kenya. Huckabee only added to the character assassination when he later tried to explain the Obama comments, saying: “Most of us grew up going to Boy Scout meetings, and you know, our communities were filled with Rotary Clubs, not madrassas.” In other words, Obama may not be Kenyan, but he’s probably Muslim!  Someone might want to tell Mike that Hawaii has both Boy Scouts and Rotary Clubs?
