Courtney Love Pays Heavy Price For Twitter Verbal Rants

Published on March 4, 2011 at 9:49 AM

(HMG Celebrity News) – I doubt this will shut her up, but it’s a start!  Courtney Love will now have to pay out $430000 to a designer who sued her in a groundbreaking defamation lawsuit for her comments on Twitter. Fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir didn’t really appreciate being called an “asswipe nasty lying hosebag thief,” by the foulmouthed Hole singer.    Love and Simorangkir had apparently been feuding because Love owed the designer money for clothes.

Love argued (to no avail) that her comments were protected as free speech and that Simorangkir could not prove how the tweets were damaging to her.

But now Love has agreed to settle out of court and hand over a sum immediately, while making a series of payments over the next three years. Simorangkir’s lawyer Bryan Freedman tells Hollywood Reporter: “The amount of the settlement says it all. Her(Love) reprehensible defamatory comments were completely false and $430,000 is quite a significant way to say I am sorry. One would hope that, given this disaster, restraint of pen, tongue and tweet would guide Ms. Love’s future conduct.”
