Oscar winner, Danny Boyle reboots Frankenstein for UK stage
[HMG Celebrity News] – To many film fans Danny Boyle ranks among the best directors currently known, but after steering Slumdog Millionaire to eight Oscars and trapping James Franco in canyon in ’127 Hours,’ Danny’s next work is a surprise – he’s directing ‘Frankenstein’ on the London stage.
Marking 54-year old Danny’s first work for British theater in 15-years the show opens at London’s National Theatre tonight – and it’s already completely sold out. And the media campaign makes you realize why;
The press kit says Danny’s version of the story “addresses issues of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil.” Created, then rejected by his horrified maker the kit says the big guy then becomes “increasingly desperate and vengeful, and determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.”
And the audience is in for a treat; Dan wants to avoid all the tired cliches – the mad scientist, lots of bubbling jars and bolts through the neck – so instead the stage is lit with 3,500 bulbs and the whole 1,100-seat theatre has been wrapped in bandages.
But if you’re feeling left out, don’t be – Audiences in the rest of Europe and the US can catch the show when the National Theatre broadcasts two performances live to movie theaters on March 17th and 24th.
The last time this classic story was told was in Kenneth Branagh’s 1994 film, which starred none other than Robert De Niro as the creature. But do you think Dan has the chutzpah to do something new with a 193-year old story? And would you go to see it if you were in town?
