Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese team for new Wall Street film
[HMG Celebrity News] – The success of Michael Douglas’ return as Gordon Gecko in ‘Wall Street 2′ opposite Shia LaBeouf proves the public loves films about bad boys and brokers, and Martin Scorsese is now set to direct Leonardo DiCaprio in a real prize;
Based on the 1990 novel, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ the movie will tell the story of the book’s author, Jordan Belfort, whose passion for money and razor-sharp skills at selling took him from zero, to millionaire, to convict in under ten years.
Ridley Scott was due to direct a movie adaptation of the 500-page book for Warners, but they dropped it after Ridley walked out. But Vulture says Leo’s manager has found some new finance, so the movie’s back on without the studio involved.
The story goes like this – In 1987, Belfort formed a New York brokerage firm called ‘Stratton Oakmont.’ He then allegedly bought vast amounts of stock in obscure companies and used Stratton to drive up its price. Then he sold the same stock for vast profits and split the cash with the bosses.
Stratton became one of the most notorious ‘boiler room’ brokerages in the country and Jordan’s life was a dizzying blur of fast cars, money and drugs. Then the SEC got involved. They shut the firm down in 1994, banned Jordan from Wall Street for life and gave him four-years in jail.
‘The Sopranos’ lead writer Terence Winter is in charge of the script and shooting is currently set for June of next year, as soon as Scorsese is done with directing Benicio Del Toro in ‘Silence.’
So you’ve got illegal trading, illicit drugs, and impossible wealth won and squandered. With Scorsese directing and Leo on the screen it should be hard ignore. Do you plan to see it? If so, tell us why…
