Cher to star in ‘Three Stooges’ movie?

(HMG Celebrity News) – Good article in the LA Times about the Farrelly brothers long quest to make “The Three Stooges” remake.  I was really down on this project particularly when they were slated to go with the A-List trio of Sean Penn (Larry), Jim Carrey (Curly) and Benicio Del Toro (Moe), but I do admire their passion and reverence for the stooges.  Anyway Peter and Bobby Farrelly, tell the Times that they’re hoping to land Cher in the film because they enjoyed working with her in the Farrellys’ Siamese-twin comedy “Stuck on You” back in 2003, when she made a cameo appearance. They say “Cher is just the coolest chick ever” and they want her for the role of Mother Superior, the nun that Larry, Curly, Moe will torture in their forthcoming film (sounds a little  like the Blues Brothers plot).  But while the brothers hope this will be their next project they still haven’t gotten around to re-casting the feature roles.  Andy Samberg and Johnny Knoxville apparently are still on the shortlist to star in “Stooges:” “We like both of those guys,” said Bobby Farrelly. “We always thought Samberg looks a little like he could play Larry. And Knoxville is a real-life stooge. He’s a real-life Moe.”  Aussie actor Shane Jacobson, best known for playing toilet technician ‘Kenny’ in the hit film of the same name, is rumored as a possible contender for Curly.  But the Farrelly brothers make it pretty clear in the interview that they are still open to known and unknown actors that might have the perfect blend of skills they are looking for: a flair for comedy and a capacity for imitation to go along with an innate physicality.
