Keith Olbermann To Land On Public Affairs Channel Current TV?

Published on February 8, 2011 at 8:10 AM

(HMG News) – When Keith Olbermann abruptly announced his departure from once top-rated MSNBC’s ‘Countdown,’ in January, as NBC Universal was acquired by Comcast, there was speculation he might have to sit on the sidelines for a while.  Keith had around two years left on his contract, and he’ll reportedly be paid his salary at around $7 million a year, with speculation he would be benched for a minimum of 6 months, and probably longer. But it looks like the strongly opinionated host might have already lined up his next television home.

According to the NY Times Media Decoder, the former sports anchor will announce Tuesday his plans to work with Current TV, a public affairs channel founded by Al Gore and other independent backers.

Sources claim Olbermann would have an equity stake in the low-rated five-year-old channel Current TV, and a public relations agency hired by the host has already scheduled a Tuesday morning call for “an exciting announcement regarding the next chapter in (Olbermann’s) remarkable career.”
