[HMG Celebrity News] – Sex and the City is one of HBO’s biggest successes. The first movie was a hit, but despite last year’s turgid sequel the story’s not over. There are rumors of plans for a prequel, and Sarah Jessica Parker would be replaced by Blake Lively from ‘Gossip Girl.’

The suits in charge at New Line, who made the last movie, are said to be in talks with ‘SATC’ author Candace Bushnell about adapting her new book ‘The Carrie Diaries’ and its companion ‘Summer And The City’ as an ‘SATC’ prequel, and Blake is the favorite to play the young Carrie.

‘Diaries’ covers Carrie’s years in High School, while ‘Summer’ follows her move from sleepy Connecticut to the unbridled riot of noise, life and color that is NYC while she’s still just 19.

“There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back in the old format,” an insider tells Grazia. “The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of a relationship with an older man.”

Blake’s reps are denying the 23-year old star has made any firm commitment at present, but that’s par for the course – it makes people talk. But ‘SATC 2′ lost money. Hollywood folk don’t like losses, and with a franchise as popular as this you can bet they’ve got a scheme to recoup them. And this could be it.

If you’re a fan of Carrie and the girls, would you want a prequel? And don’t you think the story deserves an actress less dull and two-dimensional than Blake?

Let’s get your input and see where we stand…
