‘Survivor’ producer Bruce Beresford-Redman faces extradition

[HMG Celebrity News] – The curious story of how ‘Survivor’ producer Bruce Beresford-Redman allegedly murdered his wife took a new twist yesterday when prosecutors filed a 438-page extradition request to return him to Mexico, where he’d stand trial.

The case captured public attention back in April when Monica Beresford-Redman’s body was found wedged in a sewer at a Cancun resort where the couple and their children were staying.

The Mexican police eyed Bruce as a suspect and took his passport, but he just returned to the US without it.

He was later arrested by US Marshals and is now in custody awaiting a trial.

Mexican prosecutors say evidence suggests Bruce had affairs, and Monica was threatening divorce. He then allegedly plotted the trip to Cancun to cause her death and avoid this. The affidavit claims Bruce beat and smothered Monica in their hotel room, dumped her in the sewer, then fled to LA when the local police got involved.

The papers also list Monica’s possible motives – Bruce spent $5,000 a month on phone-sex, their 11-year marriage was endlessly stormy, he also chased other women and had a torrid affair with his assistant.

Prosecutors say Monica finally emptied their joint account and made Bruce leave the home. And at this point, so they claim, he concocted the sick plan to kill her.

Monica’s family say Bruce claimed the trip was to patch up their marriage, but she had doubts and left vital papers with her sister and gave all her jewelery to the family’s nanny.

“He had the time to plan the homicide,” says the affidavit. ”He knew he was going to cause her death, and due to his profession he was able to conceal important evidence which would have incriminated him.”

On April 6th guests reported ‘screaming and crying’ and ‘the sound of something being dragged.’ Two days later Monica’s decomposed body was found wedged in a drain. She’d been beaten, strangled and smothered.

Police found blood spatters in the hotel room, in the bathroom and more on the balcony.

Quizzed by police Bruce gave a different story from what he’d told the staff, and cuts and scrapes on his leg, neck and fingers were explained as the result of ‘climbing in an underground cave.’

The cops took his passport, but he ducked back into the US and was arrested by Marshals on November 16.

A hearing is now scheduled in a Los Angeles court to determine whether the Mexican affidavit contains enough evidence exists to get Bruce extradited. There’s no date as yet but we’ll keep you informed…
