Colin Farrell confirmed for ‘Total Recall’ reboot
[HMG Celebrity News] – In the latest example of Hollywood’s shameful fetish for reheating old movies it’s now been confirmed that Colin Farrell will assume Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic role in a remake of the 1990 cult classic, Total Recall.
The rumors of this unwelcome make over began in June of 2009 when Columbia Pictures hired Kurt Wimmer to work out a script. Kurt was chosen after his work on last year’s Angelina Jolie action-thriller ‘Salt’ He delivered a first draft of ‘Recall’ last month and the film begins production in May.
Due to be directed by Len Wiseman [who made 'Underworld' with Kate Beckinsale in 2006,] the new film is due stay far closer to the original 1966 short-story by Philip K. Dick than Arnold’s version did.
In the original story Arnold’s character wanted to go to Mars but couldn’t afford it, so he has memories of such a trip implanted while still safely on Earth. But the people doing the implant discover he’s really a dangerous assassin, and the government then wants him dead.
Instead the two sides make a deal to swap the Mars memories for some that make him look like a hero, but are equally false. But during the swap the firm doing the implant discover those memories are already there – and they’re true.
So in this take on the story, Colin apparently won’t visit Mars or even go into space. The locations and release date are not known as yet, but this might almost be a good film.
If you’ve seen the original – and who hasn’t? – or you like Colin, what’s your view on this news?…

You can’t remake Total Recall, it doesn’t work. Part of the magic that made Total Recall so great was the casting, the animatronics, and the 80′s depiction of the future. This is just going to be another craptastic run of the mill CGI fest.
It seems like an attempt to try and cash in under the Total Recall name. Nothing will come close to the original.
“You can’t remake Total Recall”
They aren’t re-making Arnold Schwarzenegger’s film. They are doing a more serious, less campy film based solely on the Philip K. Dick short story.
“run of the mill CGI fest”
Len Wiseman is well known for using very little CGI. He only uses it where possible. He prefers real sets, real makeup and costumes, and real stunts.
As for Arnie’s film, it’s a highly overrated film that hasn’t stood the test of time.
